Wordt gebruikt in de cosmetica en voedings industrie.
Het wordt aan veel voedingsmiddelen toegevoegd als antischuimmiddel, m.n. aan confituren, marmelade, fruit- en groentenconserven, vruchtensappen, soepen en (frituur)vetten. In de cosmetica wordt het toegevoegd aan oa cremes en haarconditioners als emulgator. In de chemie wordt het oa gebruikt als siliconenolie voor smeltpuntbepalingsapparaten.
